Jamal Adams remains a New York Jet, although rumors of Adams being dealt to the Dallas Cowboys just won’t go away.
A two-time Pro Bowler, Adams is signed through the 2021 NFL season. The two sides are in ongoing discussions about an contract extension. However, talks are progressing slowly, and animosity appears to be brewing on both sides.
The latest odds regarding a future home for Adams maintain that it will be in the Big Apple. The Jets are listed as the -200 chalk to be Adams’ team when the 2020 NFL season kicks off.

Persistent speculation that Adams will bet dealt to the Dallas Cowboys won’t go away, though. That explains why Dallas is the +450 second-favorite to be his team at the start of the upcoming season.
Jets, Adams Growing Colder
Word out of the Jets camp is that the ongoing negotiations between the team and Adams are not only stalled, but are growing bitter. The two sides are at polar opposites and entrenched in their demands.
A fourth-year pro, Adams, 24, already shows one first-team and one second-team All-NFL selection on his resume of work. He’s scored two defensive touchdowns in his career.

Adams recorded a career-high 6.5 sacks in 2019. That was just shy of the NFL-record for a safety of eight set by Arizona’s Adrian Wilson in 2015.
Adams has two years left on his current contract. A team captain, Adams will earn $3.5 million this season and $9.9 million for the 2021 campaign. He signed a fully-guaranteed four-year, $22.25 million pact after the Jets selected him sixth overall in the 2017 NFL Draft. The Jets picked up the fifth-year option.
Don’t Let Your Safeties Grow Up To Be Cowboys
It’s the rumor that just isn’t going away, no matter how many NFL pundits downplay it. Adams is reportedly open to a trade if the Jets aren’t anxious to meet his contract demands. And the team he covets the most as a destination is Dallas.

Speculation is that the price the Jets would require for Adams would include first and third-round draft picks. Dallas certainly has a need for upgrading its secondary.
Still, the Cowboys opted to take Oklahoma wide receiver CeeDee Lamb in the first round of the draft, rather than address the holes in their defensive backfield.
Jets Can’t Let Adams Go
In strong safety Adams and free safety Marcus Maye, the Jets possess one of, if not the best safety tandem in the NFL. Normally, that would be case closed. A new contract with Adams would be hammered out.
But these are the Jets we’re talking about. No NFL team cuts off its nose to spite its face with more frequency.

To say things have been acrimonious between the team and Adams over the past year is an understatement. Adams is their best player and they’ve done nothing but anger him.
