What happens when you get disconnected in the biggest pot of your poker career, but you were lucky enough to film it?
A Bad Beat Jackpot is a promotion in live and online poker where by extra rake is paid and the rake collected eventually gets awarded to a table where a monster hand happens, usually when we see Quads or better lose. The ‘loser’ of the hand gets the lion’s share, the ‘winner’ of the hand gets a big prize and everyone at the table gets a piece too.
It’s not often you see a bad beat within a bad beat but that is what happened when Brandon Di Silvestro made a straight flush against Quads and a Full House. On the turn he was facing a bet but his account got disconnected and was unable to press call. This was a $100NL game and the jackpot would have been $349,046.26 had his hand got to the river.
Luckily for him he filmed the session so he had proof that it was the software at BetOnline.Ag and not his choice to fold.
This was the worst thing to happen to me in my 15 years of playing poker. With that being said support is still in contact with me so I’m gonna remain optimistic until they give me the official statement (round 2) because they did originally tell me I was shit out of luck. https://t.co/EmnbxZ8lym

One of the big benefits of the Twitch era of poker is that people film their sessions, so Di Silvestro was able to share the recording with enough influential people like Joe Ingram and on the poker forums to bring this story to the site’s attention. In a somewhat unprecedented move they ended up honouring the jackpot, acknowledging a software error on their end.
To everyone involved I with my #BBJ hand at @betonline_ag I want to inform you guys that the money just hit my account. Thanks to @Joeingram1 for blowing this up for me. @DaveMasonBOL @BetOnlineBurns for reaching out to me personally multiple times. I’ll do a full post on 2p2 pic.twitter.com/PkLoBNVS94

As a result Di Silvestro was awarded $52,356.94 and the ‘loser’ of the hand ‘shkarina’ was awarded $69,809.25. The other players at the table were each awarded $14,543.59.
So the lesson here folks is to film yourself every time you play (which would probably serve you well if you ever get accused of ghosting too) and to reach out to somebody like Joe Ingram if you ever get in trouble.
BetOnline $375k bad beat jackpot update. They’ve gone over the incident once more and have now awarded the jackpot to the table.
Thanks to @betonline_ag for making this right. No one is folding a straight flush.
Congrats @devowned on the $53,532 prize pic.twitter.com/fAj1tcPkyG
