Daniel Cates is accused of ‘ghosting’ along with Sina Taleb by the infamous Instagram star.
Yesterday we brought you the news that Bill Perkins was cheated by a well known professional but he would not say who. Last night we got a possible answer.
It’s not very often Dan Bilzerian makes headlines for something to actually do with poker, but he appears to have been one of the players in the alleged game, and last night he accused Daniel ‘Jungleman’ Cates of playing on the account of Sina Taleb (he has since deleted the tweet below):
What appears to have transpired is that a number of wealthy recreational players, including Perkins and Bilzerian, were playing in a private online game using a free-to-play unregulated app and settling up the finances of a high stakes game elsewhere in private. Bilzerian is then suggesting that recreational player Sina Taleb actually got Cates to play on his account posing as him and presumably sharing in any profit. This practice is called ‘Ghosting’ and is not allowed at any poker site.
Cates responded quickly on Twitter and didn’t exactly deny it, though he did say he had not played against Bilzerian. He then retweeted a tweet (below) suggesting ghosting was commonplace in poker:
I can’t discuss this right now for legal reasons but this is misleading, I haven’t played a hand of poker with @DanBilzerian ever lol. More to come when appropriate but there was rampant ghosted on the site that people have admitted to.

I would like one top online pro to come on Twitter and say “I have never played on someone else’s account. I have never sat behind someone playing and advised in spots. I have never even had a piece of anyone doing this.”
Just one!

Previously Perkins had hinted that more than one high profile player had been ghosting these games and in his initial tweets mentioned he was cheated on a different free-to-play poker app than the one Bilzerian mentioned, so more names could be revealed as this story develops.
While Perkins has backtracked previous claims that this story is bigger than the Mike Postle affair, it certainly could be a very big story. Despite having previously been involved in a similar scandal ten years ago Cates had repaired his image to become something of a fan favourite in poker and now that the most infamous social media star associated with poker has accused him of cheating, this won’t be going away any time soon.
Do you consider ‘ghosting’ to be a serious form of cheating? Let us know in the comments:
