- Check out the early odds and picks for MLB’s Friday slate (Sept. 25th)
Two months ago, JA Happ was being counted out of the pitching picture for the New York Yankees. As the postseason fast approaches, Happ is proving to be a pitcher the Yanks figure to be counting on in the playoffs.
The Tampa Bay Rays always know they can rely on Charlie Morton to deliver the goods.
These two hurlers take the mound Friday in their final tuneup before baseball’s second season gets underway, and both look to be solid plays at home.
Happ and the Bronx Bombers are -200 favorites over Miami in the Marlins vs Yankees odds. Tampa Bay and Morton are the -182 chalk against Philadelphia in the Phillies vs Rays odds.

Odds as of Sept. 24 at DraftKings.
Pick 1: Yankees Moneyline (-200) vs Marlins
Reasoning: JA Happ is one of the hottest pitchers in MLB.
Over the course of his last seven starts, Happ has lowered his ERA from 10.29 to 3.25. In his last start, an 8-0 victory over the Boston Red Sox, Happ scattered four hits over eight innings. He struck nine and didn’t walk a batter.
Five weeks ago, JA Happ made his 1st start in 11 days. He had a 10 ERA and wasn’t thrilled about being skipped. Since then, Happ has ERA under 2, he’s mixing 4-seam/2-seam effectively and he looks like he could be major playoff factor. In a short time, Happ changed the narrative

The 37-year-old lefty is 21-10 for the Yankees since he was acquired from Toronto in a 2018 trade. Happ is 3-2 with a 3.97 ERA in 10 career appearances against the Marlins, seven of them starts.
Pick 2: Rays Moneyline (-182) vs Phillies
Reasoning: Charlie Morton hasn’t allowed more than three runs in any of his last seven starts.
Morton has a 3.86 ERA and 17 strikeouts in 16.1 innings in four starts since returning from the IL. He threw a season-high 94 pitches in his last start against the Baltimore Orioles.

The Phillies could be without outfielder Bryce Harper (back), catcher JP Realmuto (hip) and first baseman Rhys Hoskins (elbow) for this game.
