Pavelski, Perry Deliver for Stars

The Stars have forced a Game 6 in this series thanks in large part to the play of two veterans. Forwards Joe Pavelski and Corey Perry have now scored the last six goals for Dallas, including Perry coming through in the clutch with the doubleovertime winner in Game 5.

Tyler Seguin and Jamie Benn remain goalless in the final, but they haven’t been without their chances. Seguin had one of his best games of the playoffs in Game 5, assisting on all three Stars goals, while Benn missed a partially open net in OT and later opted to pass on a great 2-on-1 opportunity.

The Stars were outshot for a fifth straight game, but it didn’t matter becauses Anton Khudobin came to play. After being burned for 10 goals in his last two starts, Khudobin rebounded with a big 39-save performance in Game 5.

Bolts Can’t Quite Finish

The Lightning have been dynamite in overtime this postseason, but their magic ran out in Game 5. The Lightning outplayed the Stars badly in the first overtime period, outshooting them 6-1. But when it was time for double overtime, it was the Stars who came out flying and capitalized on an opportunity in the crease.

The Lightning have played a whopping 15 overtime periods in this compressed return-to-play postseason, so it’s understandable that they ran out of gas when a game went far past regulation.

The positive is that they they got another great performance from the line of Ondrej Palat, Brayden Point and Nikita Kucherov and would be Cup winners right now if it weren’t for a sensational toe save by Khudobin in OT.

After playing Games 4 and 5 on back-to-back nights, the Bolts will get an off day to rest for a big Game 6 on Monday. That’s something to consider when betting this game; the Stars only other win in this series came in Game 1, when they were far more rested than Tampa Bay.

Bolts Have Been Here Before

The Lightning are no strangers to having a 3-1 series lead and then dropping Game 5 to see that lead narrowed. It just happened to them against the Islanders in the previous round, and they were able to bounce back with a big victory in Game 6 to take the series. They’ll look to replicate that formula on Monday.

One of the main reasons to ride with Tampa Bay for Game 6 is the mounting injuries for the Stars. Roope Hintz, Radek Faksa, and Blake Comeau are all injured and didn’t play in Game 5. While they aren’t superstars, Hintz (2 G, 11 A) had been a solid contributor this postseason, while Faska and Comeau play important roles on the penalty kill.

Pavelski and Perry scoring all the goals for Dallas is a nice story, but it isn’t going to cut it against this talented Tampa squad. Point and Kucherov have been hyper-consistent this postseason and are outplaying the Stars’ top forwards. The rest day is going to greatly benefit this tired yet talented Tampa squad. They won’t let another opportunity to win Lord Stanley pass them by.

Pick: Tampa Bay Lightning Moneyline (-162)
