Solid Stone – 18:15 Chelmsford
Solid Stone was an impressive winner on his reappearance at Sandown in June, doing well to overhaul a rival who had the run of the race from the front. He failed to meet expectations when only mid-division in the John Smith’s Cup, and he was also below his best when third at Kempton last time, but there’s little doubt that he has the ability to make an impact off this mark. He is relatively lightly raced and is worth another chance, particularly as the Sir Michael Stoute stable is in such excellent form.
Australis hasn’t been quite at his best the last twice on turf, but he should appreciate the return to the all-weather. He looked a four-year-old to follow earlier this season when beating Caravan of Hope in a handicap at Wolverhampton before chasing that rival home in the Northumberland Plate. That is a rock-solid piece of form and Australis, who was successful on his only start at this course last season, has an excellent record on artificial surfaces. He can make the most of this drop in class and return to winning ways.
Wild Flower – 20:15 Chelmsford
Wild Flower may be an eight-year-old but she has looked as good as ever this month, raising her game since joining the Shaun Keightley yard. She was a creditable third on her first start for the stable at Kempton two and a half weeks ago and then justified good support just 24 hours later at Chepstow, sticking to her task well having cut out much of the running. She was ridden with more restraint at Yarmouth last week and impressed with the turn of foot she showed after getting the gap, winning with more in hand than a winning margin of a head would suggest. She can complete the hat-trick.
