Odds as of Sept. 2.
New Role For Dinos’ Myung-gi
NC Dinos pitcher Song Myung-gi has only entered the Dinos’ rotation recently, but the early results are quite good. In two starts, he is 1-0 with a 2.53 ERA, allowing just three runs in 10.2 innings.
Now, Myung-gi starts against Kiwoom. His numbers are skewed against the Heroes because the sample this season is so small (two earned runs in two innings, 9.00 ERA). He allowed those runs during his second relief appearance of the season on June 13. That performance shouldn’t concern bettors.
Plus, when you have the Dinos’ league-best offense behind you, how bad can it be? A solid five or so innings should be enough from Myung-gi, with the Dinos’ bats taking care of the rest.
Pick: NC Dinos (-155)
Another Hanwha Value Play
Humor me, please. I tried yesterday to convince bettors to put some faith in Hanwha on the runline, and they didn’t quite come through. (Doosan won, 4-0.)
Here I am, asking bettors to consider backing the Eagles again. Hanwha starter Chad Bell has been awful against Doosan this season (0-2, 8.38 ERA), but his recent performances have been extremely promising.
Bell is 2-0 with a 0.47 ERA in his past three starts, allowing just one run in 19 innings while striking out 19 batters.
Ride Bell’s hot streak and believe that Hanwha’s bats can wake up against Doosan starter Lee Seung-jin (0-2, 6.63 ERA this season).
Pick: Hanwha Eagles (+170)
Wake-Up Call for Giants
The Lotte Giants have won seven of ten matchups this season against KT Wiz Suwon, but you wouldn’t know it by how they played on Tuesday morning. Suwon throttled the Giants, 11-2, while out-hitting Lotte 14-6 .
For Lotte, it was their worst offensive performance in the past week. They are a middling KBO team offensively (.275 batting average, fifth in the league), but they’re certainly better than what they showed against KT Wiz.
Fortunately, Lotte has a chance to wake up the bats on Wednesday against Suwon starter Kim Min-soo. He has a 1.77 WHIP this season, and has allowed 50 hits in his past seven starts. That’s 50 hits in 35 innings.
A pitcher who’s that generous, hits-wise, is just what Lotte needs to get right.
Pick: Lotte Giants (+105)
