Germany’s Bundesliga reaches its final round on Saturday with Fortuna Dusseldorf facing a battle to avoid automatic relegation in their clash with mid-table Union Berlin.

Dusseldorf are in 16th place, which will place them in a relegation play-off against the team which finishes third in Bundesliga 2 – either FC Heidenheim or SV Hamburg.

However, 17th-placed Werder Bremen are only two points behind Dusseldorf and could climb above them out of the bottom two automatic relegation places if they win at home against FC Koln.

All odds taken June 26th

Dusseldorf are priced as -111 favorites for an away victory with Union Berlin at odds of +260. The draw is +250.

There could be some calculated value in a  spread bet on Dussledorf to win by one goal at -111 at the Stadion An der Alten Forsterei at 9.30 a.m ET on Saturday, June 27.

Successful Sign Off?

With Berlin looking to sign off well after their debut Bundesliga campaign and with Duddelsdorf desperate for at least a point, the draw looks the best bet here.

Fortuna are six points behind 16th-placed Augsburg, so they cannot completely escape the relegation dogfight. But merely a draw in the capital this weekend will secure their playoff place.

In an unlikely scenario, Dusseldorf could be automatically relegated if they draw in Berlin and Werder Bremen win by a four-goal margin at home against FC Koln.

Berlin are in 12th place in their first ever season in the top flight so have nothing to play for but pride and a potential 11th place finish.

Dusseldorf have much more to fight for but have won just once since the German soccer season resumed eight fixtures ago and have drawn their most recent two outings.

That win was a 2-1 victory against Schalke 04 on May 27 since when they have gone five games without a win – losing twice.

Union Berlin vs Fortuna Dusseldorf Statistics

11 Wins 6
7 Losses 15
5 Draws 12
38 Goals 36
58 Goals Against 54
7 Clean Sheets 4
68 Yellow Cards 76

However, those defeats came at the hands of this season’s champions Bayern Munich and second-placed Borussia Dortmund.

The defeat of Schalke was their only win in 10 games stretching back beyond the suspension of play in March.

Two Draws on the Spin

In their most recent two games, Fortuna drew 2-2  away against high-flyers Red Bull Leipzig and then drew 1-1 at home against Augbsurg in their most recent fixture.

Meanwhile, Berlin slumped to a 4-0 thrashing away at Hoffenheim in their most recent match.

This brought to an end a run of two straight wins; a 2-1 victory away at FC Koln and then a 1-0 home triumph against bottom club Paderborn. In total, they have won twice, drawn twice and lost on four occasions following the resumption of the competition following the COVID-19 shutdown.

Before the defeat of FC Koln, their most recent win was a 2-1 victory against Eintracht Frankfurt on February 24th.

This is a critical date for Dusseldorf, but they have the worst away record in the Bundesliga with only two wins, six draws and eight defeats on the road – scoring 18 times and conceding 36 goals.

Union Berlin can be pretty pleased with their home record in their first campaign in the top flight. It consists of seven wins, three draws and six defeats – the eighth-best over all, with 21 goals scored and 20 conceded.

They are unbeaten in their three most recent games at their own HQ. Dusseldorf have not won away from home since they defeated Freiburg 2-0 on February 22nd, which was 10 games ago.

There was a 2-1 home win for Dusseldorf when these teams met last December.

Berlin will be without their leading goal-scorer, the Swede Sebastian Andersson, who has netted 12 times but is now suspended.

Pick: Draw +250
