The first of the major European leagues to resume, the Bundesliga’s disrupted 2019-20 season comes to an end this weekend. Saturday, June 27th sees all 18 teams kick-off at the same time, including Borussia Monchengladbach and Hertha Berlin at Borussia-Park.
Since Bayern wrapped up the title, the Bundesliga’s best teams have been left to tussle over the final Champions League spot. RB Leipzig have effectively booked their place in next season’s competition thanks to a massive goal difference advantage. The situation is trickier for Monchengladbach, who could slip to fifth if Leverkusen beat Mainz and they lose to Hertha on Saturday.
The Bundesliga Matchday 34 odds favor Gladbach to notch an important win to close out the season.

Return to the Big Time
It’s three seasons since Gladbach were in the Champions League. They were in the midst of the title race for much of this campaign – while a fourth-place finish could be considered underwhelming, it’s a successful campaign after finishing fifth and ninth in the last two seasons.
Marco Rose’s team were one of the most watchable in Europe, they have a frontline that excites and score goals freely. The riches that come with Champions League qualification will be huge for a club that could face a battle to keep its best players. Marcus Thuram, Alassane Plea and Denis Zakaria are all likely to attract interest in the summer window.

Unfortunately for Rose, Thuram and Zakaria are unavailable for the visit of Hertha. Plea is a doubt, as are Fabian Johnson and Raffael. Breel Embolo is expected to lead the line. Gladbach aren’t the only ones missing players, however.
Depleted Hertha
The list of Hertha players who are unavailable, or could be, for this weekend’s match is a long read.
Maximilian Mittelstadt is out through illness, Karim Rekik and Per Skjelbred are doubts, and it’s uncertain if Matheus Cunha and Marvin Plattenhardt will be available after concussions. Salomon Kalou is suspended after breaking COVID-19 rules, Javairo Dilrosun has a muscle injury.

Bruno Labbadia’s options are limited. He will look to name a similar team to the one that beat Leverkusen. Cunha’s availability could prove crucial to Hertha’s chances of staging an upset – the 21-year-old Brazilian opened the scoring last weekend and has been a key figure of Labbadia in the second half of the campaign.
The injury, suspension and illness issues obviously weaken Hertha and should play into Gladbach’s hands, but these are two squads far from their strongest. After defeating Leverkusen, the visitors cannot be written off.

Gladbach Under Pressure
Gladbach are missing their two top scorers and in Zakaria, a key midfielder. They have the depth of squad to still be considered favorites here, and they will still attack with the same directness.
Hertha had lost three in a row before their victory last time out. That win changes how we look at this game and makes them look a good betting option at +1.5.
The draw, out at +390, could interest some bettors. As always with Gladbach, there’s likely to be a few goals, but it could end up being a closer match than the odds suggest.
Pick: Hertha Berlin +1.5 (-110)
