- The 2020 NHL season will resume on July 30th
- A total of 24 teams are still in contention for the 2020 Stanley Cup
- Rumors suggest numerous players will not be joining their teammates due to health concerns related COVID-19
The 2020 NHL season is officially scheduled to resume on July 30th with the #5 to #12 seeds in each conference participating in eight best-of-five “qualification series”. The winners of those eight series will join the top-four seeds in each conference to comprise a standard 16-team playoff field. Apart from a lack of fans in the stands and all games being played in one of three “hub cities”, the remainder of the postseason will proceed as usual.
Since the league’s restart was announced, there have been rumors that a number of players are not going to participate due to health concerns posed by COVID-19.
As of June 30th, no players had officially announced their intention to opt out. The table below will be updated daily (at minimum) as the list inevitably grows.
