Nick Shiambouros returns to Belmont Park with two selections including the Grade 1 Ogden Phipps…
Kitten’s Kat on the prowl
Race 6 20:59 Belmont Park – Kitten’s Kat
Kitten’s Kat should make his presence felt in this $32k claimer on the inner turf.
This six-year-old beat a group of $25k claimers at Turfway Park in March. He was taken on for the lead in the early stages, but found extra in the straight to win decisively. This was his best piece of form for some time, and should move forward in this slightly more competitive race. He has been working really well ahead of this assignment, and put in a bullet over this course nine days ago. Trainer Michael Maker boasts an impressive 20% strike rate in claimers, and will have him ready to go. He should be backed at around [4.0] on the exchange.
Pink Sands to win first Grade 1
Race 9 22:36 Belmont Park – Pink Sands
I am going to take a chance with Pink Sands in this mouthwatering Grade 1 for older fillies and mares.
This Tapit mare was most impressive when winning a Grade 2 at Gulfstream Park in January. She was well behind at the halfway point, but finished like a rocket and won going away. This was a huge effort from this likeable mare and comes in to this race in the form of her life. She was yet to win a Grade 1, but I feel today is the day. Hopefully she can take advantage of the expected fast early pace to utilize her late kick. Trainer Shug McGaughey has had a fast start to the meeting, and has engaged the services of Jose Ortiz who is an excellent judge of pace. At present she is trading at [9.0] on the exchange which is more than fair.
