With another Champions League season upon us, we get started with a very intriguing match on Tuesday, October 20th, where PSG welcome Manchester United to the Parc Des Princes, kick-off 3 PM EST.

The Ligue 1 giants finished as runners up in last year’s UCL campaign, losing to Bayern Munich in the final. Meanwhile, the Red Devils were knocked out in the semifinals of the Europa League by the eventual champions, Sevilla.

The last time these two sides met, United pulled off a massive comeback in the Round of 16, winning 3-1 on the road thanks to Romelu Lukaku’s brace. They advanced on away goals, after going down 2-0 after the first leg at Old Trafford.

United Looking for Positive Start in Champions League

Manchester United will head into this match with a sense of confidence, knowing they were the ones who knocked out PSG in UCL play just two seasons ago. But, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men have been struggling this term, winning just twice in four Premier League matches. They’ve looked helpless defensively at times, but on a positive note, United did put three past Newcastle on Saturday in the last ten minutes en route to a 4-1 victory. Previous results have put Solskjaer at risk for losing his job, including a 6-1 defeat to Tottenham at the beginning of the month.

If the Red Devils continue to string together some positive showings, the Norwegian should be staying put for the time being. This is definitely going to be a tough fixture for the English giants, but they will head into Paris with optimism after a solid performance on the weekend where their attack was clicking on all cylinders.

Harry Maguire, Edinson Cavani, and Mason Greenwood have not made the trip to France. Maguire was listed as doubtful due to a small injury for Saturday’s Premier League clash, but he played anyway and will miss this game. Cavani just started training with his new club and will miss the chance to feature against his former side in PSG, with who he played his last game with back in March. Greenwood meanwhile, is also suffering from an unknown injury.

PSG Heavy Favorites Against Red Devils

As you can see in the odds, the Parisians are massive favorites in this fixture. It stands to reason though. PSG has won five straight matches, conceding just one goal while scoring 16 times. They’ve been utterly dominant as of late and surely will be thinking that their recent form will propel them to a crucial Matchday 1 victory on Tuesday. Kylian Mbappe is leading Thomas Tuchel’s squad with four goals to his name already, while the likes of Neymar, Julian Draxler, and Mauro Icardi have all bagged a couple of goals apiece.

PSG does face a boatload of problems when it comes to injuries though. Leandro Paredes, Mauro Icardi, Juan Bernat, and Thilo Kehrer are all out for this Man United clash. Several others including Julian Draxler and Marquinhos are also doubtful.

The French giants have always been quite dominant on home soil. In Champions League competition, they haven’t lost a group stage fixture at the Parc des Princes since December of 2004, a 24-match run. They also didn’t concede one goal at home in last year’s European campaign.

PSG vs Manchester United Stats

5-0-2 (1st in Ligue 1) Record in League Play 2-0-2 (14th in EPL)
16 Goals Scored in League Play 9
3 Goals Conceded in League Play 12
661.7(1st in Ligue 1) Passes Per Match 548.8(6th in EPL)

Best Bet

Given PSG’s recent run of form of basically perfect football, I do have to go with them in this match. Although they’re missing several key players, they still have their two main attackers in Mbappe and Neymar. United could miss the presence of Maguire at the back, but they should still put up a respectable fight. I don’t see Tuesday’s match being a blowout by any means though, with the hosts winning by one goal and continuing their domination at home.

Pick: PSG
