Can Scottie Scheffler keep rolling at this week’s BMW Championship? Photo from @CBSSportsHQ (Twitter)
- The top 70 players in the FedEx Cup Playoffs head to Olympia Fields GC for the BMW Championship from Aug 27-30th
- Kevin Kisner, Xander Schauffele, and Scottie Scheffler are a few of our favorite players to win their matchups this week at Olympia Fields Country Club
- Check out below to find out the best matchup odds and picks for the 2020 BMW Championship
The second round of the playoffs is among us, as the prestigious Olympia Fields Country Club will play host to the BMW Championship this week. The North Course at Olympia Fields has been the host of many tournaments like the PGA Championship, U.S. Open, and U.S. Amateur.
The field has been cut down from 125 to 70 after last week’s Northern Trust. The players that start well in the FedEx Cup Playoffs tend to carry their momentum into the next week’s event. Let’s take a look at my three favorite matchup plays for this week.
Kevin Kisner/Ryan Moore Matchup Odds
Golfer | Odds at DraftKings |
---|---|
Kevin Kisner | -134 |
Ryan Palmer | +108 |
All Odds Taken August 26th
Can’t Ignore Kisner’s Recent Form
Kevin Kisner is starting to look like a legitimate contender again. The 36-year-old finished tied-third at the Wyndham Championship and tied-fourth last week at The Northern Trust. Once Kisner’s putter gets hot, he is deadly.
Kevin Kisner’s last 10 PGA Tour rounds:
40-under-par
66.4 scoring average
+12.13 strokes gained putting— Justin Ray (@JustinRayGolf) August 23, 2020
Not only has Kisner’s putter been hot, but his irons have been near perfect. In the Strokes Gained: Approach category, Kisner finished 19th last week at The Northern Trust, fifth at the Wyndham Championship, and fourth at the PGA Championship.
Kisner finished ninth at the BMW Championship last year, when the tournament was held at Medinah in Illinois. The South Carolina native has a tendency to turn it on during the playoffs, especially at next week’s destination; East Lake.
Ryan Palmer ended up finishing 8th last week at the Northern Trust but he has seen a lot of close wins or top finishes fall through his fingertips recently. I don’t believe Olympia Fields sets up very well for Palmer and Kisner is rolling. Pick Kiz.
Pick: Kevin Kisner (-138)
Scottie Scheffler/Hideki Matsuyama Matchup Odds
Golfer | Odds at DraftKings |
---|---|
Scottie Scheffler | -118 |
Hideki Matsuyama | -106 |
Stick With the Big Bombers
Hard not to bet on the guy who shot 59 just a short week ago. Scottie Scheffler can just compete in big tournaments in very competitive environments.
Unlike Scheffler, Hideki Matsuyama has not been able to put a really good finish together recently. The young-er guns are starting to take over this tour and it seems like a very possible week for Scheffler to get his first victory on the PGA Tour.

Putting together a scorecard like this in your first FedEx Cup Playoff event is insane. Scheffler ended up finishing tied-fourth last week after rounds of 70-59-67-71. Not to mention, Scheffler finished fourth at the PGA Championship only two weeks prior.
Although it may be looking too deeply at the pattern, Camilo Villegas won his first PGA Tour tournament on a similar path. In 2008, Villegas finished fourth at the PGA Championship, third at the Deutsche Bank, and then won the BMW Championship.
Matsuyama finished third at this event last year, however, it’s a different course and he does not seem to be playing with much confidence right now. Go with Scheffler for sure.
Pick: Scottie Scheffler (-118)
Xander Schauffele/Bryson DeChambeau Matchup Odds
Golfer | Odds at DraftKings |
---|---|
Xander Schauffele | -110 |
Bryson DeChambeau | -110 |
Looking Ahead for Xander
Xander Schauffele has been excellent in the playoffs throughout his career. The 26-year-old finished second at East Lake last year, tied-seventh in 2018, and won the Tour Championship in 2017.
Now that your starting score at East Lake depends on your position in the FedEx Cup standings, Schauffele knows the importance of playing well this week in Illinois.
If you rank in the top 55 (top 25%) of a strokes gain category. (Off the tee, approach, around the green, and putting)
Only 3 guys rank in top 25% of ALL 4 categories this season..

Not only does Schauffele have a good track record in the FedEx Cup Playoffs, but he’s also been playing some solid golf as of late.
He finished tied-25th last week at the Northern Trust, but finished tied-10th at the PGA Championship and tied-sixth at the WGC FedEx St. Jude Invitational.
Schauffele has the seventh-best scoring average on Tour this season, which speaks wonders of his consistency. Not to mention, he’s sixth for Greens In Regulation (GIR), which will be very important as a lot of birdies will win this week.
DeChambeau missed the cut last week and has not played well at this event in the past. His best finish at the BMW Championship is a 19th placed finish in 2018. Schauffele has a good track record in the playoffs and DeChambeau does not. Moreover, Schauffele has a much better mental game in a tournament where not getting off track is absolutely crucial.
Pick: Xander Schaufele (-110)
With five years of sports journalism under his belt already, Ryan Sura may be young, but he is already making his mark. He has written for publications such as Fantasy Pros, SB Nation and TSN.ca, covering NFL, NBA, and college sports.
