Chile to lose to Uruguay? Salah to star for Egypt vs. DR Congo?
Qatar gave Argentina a scare but failed to find the net as La Albiceleste scrambled into the last 16 of the Copa America while also denying our banker bet on Sunday night. Chile face Uruguay this week to determine who will top Group C, while there’s also African Cup of Nations action from Egypt.

Uruguay know only a win will do if they want to top Group C and they are 21/20 shots to beat Chile with bet365. Chile have been impressive in their two games so far but are sweating on the fitness of Alexis Sanchez.
The Manchester United outcast has scored in each of La Roja’s wins so far in Brazil, and has found the net for his country in every one of their last four Copa America campaigns. However he has been troubled by an ankle injury and is not certain to start at the Maracana.
Uruguay stumbled to a shock 2-2 draw with Japan last time out but have attempted 20 shots more than Chile so far in the tournament and they look worthy favourites here.
Uruguay’s defensive masters Diego Godin and Jose Gimenez could have a huge say in proceedings, and if they can keep Eduardo Vargas and Sanchez (should be be declared fit) quiet then we fancy them for the win. A draw would be enough to see both teams through, although winning the group would mean avoiding a potential meeting with favourites and hosts Brazil until the final.

Ecuador know they must beat Japan to stand any chance of progressing. It should be a spicy affair with Japan coach Hajime Moriyasu catching a fair bit of criticism in Brazil for a perceived lack of respect for sending their under-23s to the oldest tournament in international football.
Moriyasu is considering recalling teenage star Takefusa Kubo for Monday’s must-win clash but it’s the 9/2 for Enner Valencia to score first that catches our eye. The former West Ham man has bags of pace, takes penalties and can fire La Tri to victory late on Monday evening.

African Cup of Nations favourites Egypt made a steady if unspectacular start to their 2019 campaign with a 1-0 win over Zimbabwe and they look good at 1/2 to make it two wins from two when they face DR Congo on Wednesday. Mohamed Salah was not at his best in their opening fixture but the Liverpool goal machine is still his country’s go-to man for the big occasion, blasting 39 goals in just 63 appearances for the Pharaohs.
Elsewhere, Uganda were mightily impressive as they won their opening game and they look a bet at 23/20 to beat a Zimbabwe side who struggle to score goals.
Finally, the draw could be the best bet at 11/5 with Nigeria face Guinea. The Super Eagles are finally back in the Cup of Nations after missing out on the last two editions, much to their embarrassment. However this is not a vintage Nigeria side and Guinea, who finished ahead of Ivory Coast in qualifying, could claim a share of the spoils here.

Jockey: Brian Hughes
He went ver wide the last day at Aintree and when he came past me the first time I said “you’re flat out” so we are stepping him up in distance. Does he want three miles on heavy ground? Possibly not but he’s ready to go and his Wetherby run would give him a big chance.

In January 2004 the former governor of Vermont, Howard Dean, looked as though he might make it right through to the nomination. He had been a big pioneer of utilising the internet for online donations and mobilising volunteers something that was quite new at the time. In the polls ahead of Iowa, then like now the first state to decide, he looked strong and was tight favourite, at one stage odds-on in the betting, for the nomination.
At the time my day job for Oxford University meant I was travelling to his state, Vermont, a fair bit and I got to know the head of a college there who who knew Dean and was as fascinated by the political process as I was. Whenever we met we always talked about US politics and in 2004 George W Bush was seeking re-election for the Republicans.
About 10 days before the caucuses I was with my college head contact and asked how he rated Howard Dean. His response surprised me when he said emphatically that Dean would “at some stage blow himself up”.
In those days Betfair used to have forums on its site where people could discuss betting markets and I made something of a reputation for myself by predicting very boldly that Dean wouldn’t win the nomination quoting my Vermont contact’s assessment.
Then came the caucases and as the results were coming in it was clear that Howard Dean was not going to to win. He came third and his response was in the clip above which effectively killed any chances he had.
Shortly afterwards my son Robert suggested I set up my own blog and politicalbetting.com was formed in March 2004. What helped get a sizable audience within a few days was going to promote the site on the Betfair forum where I had built up a good record thanks to Howard Dean tanking in Iowa.

As discussed in our full match preview, Hamilton’s Seddon Park is a road with short boundaries to boot. A shot which might bring two on most international grounds can go for six there.

A nibble here and there at more than 190 and more than 200 is the stuff of shrewdies.
Sportsbook, quite rightly considering the volatility, haven’t oput a price on total sixes for the contest but we’re happy to take them on at 13/10 Kiwis to hit the most.
Otherwise, the runs-related wager that will leap from the coupon for most is the 13/2 that a century is scored. It’s under consideration for a bet because we know that the runmakers dominate.
Unfortunately, the value here is in swerving the 11/2 offered. Hell, sometimes advice on what isn’t a good bet is as precious as what is and it is easy to fall into the trap that it’s worth taking. Reveries of Munro going ballistic. Or Kohli. Or Rahul. Or Sharma.
Sportsbook probably know this so have kept it on their side – and then some. There have been three centuries in 65 professional men’s T20 matches at the venue, a hit rate of just over four per cent. We cannot possibly claim that to be a wager.
V for victory
KL Rahul has now overtaken Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma as their most reliable top bat wager in T20. Rahul has seven wins in 23, which puts him on a a par with 9/4 chance.
The problem is we’ve probably missed the boat with Rahul. We’re now playing catch up and betting him now could mean we’re playing in the 70% zone. That’s how often he doesn’t win. Timing is everything and it would feel like chasing if we went after him.
And we’re not sure we should abandon Kohli just yet. The great man has not looked out of touch so far and he still rates a wager at 11/4. Our data has him winning 28% of the time. He’s in the mid-40s when it comes to chases.
There is a small edge on Munro for top Kiwi. To be precise, 1.67 implied probability points. We know he likes the venue. We know he is in nick. In 12 matches at Seddon Park he averages an excellent 38 and has an insane strike rate of 180.
Unfortunately for Munro there is a bigger edge on Colin de Grandhomme. Still. This is likely to be our final chance this series for De Grandhomme to cop because he is set to sit out the final two games. He’s not exactly slow at Seddon Park, either, striking at 176 in 12 matches although his average is less than Munro’s at 27.
De Grandhomme has a win rate in line with a 9/2 shot. And although we’re a little bitter Sportsbook have not pushed him out, we know they’re right not to. Which means we have to bet again.

The Phoenix Open is nicknamed the “Greatest show on grass” due to the huge crowds and raucous atmosphere in which some golfers thrive and some don’t. But host course TPC Scottsdale is the perfect fit for an event that is amongst the most popular on the PGA Tour.
This is especially true of the 16th hole, a par-3 surrounded by a 20,000-capacity grandstand that’s normally filled with beer-fueled hecklers waiting to jeer any shot that misses the green. But to be fair, they do also cheer the good shots.
Waste Management took over the sponsorship of the Phoenix Open in 2010 and their generosity has been rewarded with high-profile winners such as Phil Mickelson, Garry Woodland, Hideki Matsuyama, and Rickie Fowler. Brooks Koepka also got his name on the trophy in 2015 and used the event as a springboard to several majors and number one in the world.
John Rahm heads the market for the 2020 Waste Management Phoenix Open and the Spaniard will be furious about blowing a great opportunity to win at Torrey Pines last week. He led going into the final round but dropped three shots in his first three holes before shooting –5 under for the rest of his final round to finish one shot and one place behind the winner Marc Leishman.
That means Rahm’s run of form reads 1/2/10/2 in his last four events and there’s every reason to think he’ll go close here in his current form. His form figures at TPC Scottsdale are solid 5/16/11/10 but, as there’s a chance he may have left too much of himself at Torrey Pines last week, the 13/2 (7.50) makes no great appeal.
Second favourite Justin Thomas has been in great form since returning from injury just before last year’s Open Championship and he’s already a winner this season. He missed the cut the week after that win but has had two weeks to freshen up as he bids to go two places better than last year. The downside is last year’s performance at the 2019 Phoenix Open was his best by far and he’d finished no better than 17th in four previous attempts.
Third favourite Webb Simpson is another player that seems to have always been on the leaderboard of late and he comes here with form figures of 2/10/3. He’s also had a three-week break since he last played, and he’s posted four top-10s in his last nine visits to TPC Scottsdale. But he was only 20th last year after missing the cut in 2018, and he may have bigger targets he’s looking to peak for.
Hideki Matsuyama has underachieved in the last couple of seasons for a player of his talents, but he’s finished 4/2/1/1 on his first four visits to TPC Scottsdale. He had to withdraw the following year but still managed to finish 15th last year when not in the best of form. He was only 45th last week but, having been 8th and 12th in his two previous events, he’s fancied to mount a challenge this week and is the first of our 2020 Waste Management Phoenix Open free tips.
Another player that has put together an excellent run of form here, 2/4/11/1, is Rickie Fowler and he seems to relish playing in front of the vocal crowds. Defending a title isn’t easy but he recorded three consecutive top10s before missing the cut last week. Missing the weekend at Torrey Pines could also be a positive as he comes into this week fresher than those that did play the weekend. That means Fowler is the second of our free tips for the 2020 Waste Management Phoenix Open.
It’s impossible to rule out the likes of Xander Schauffele and Bryson Dechambeau, and these two world-class players look fairly-priced at 18/1 and 25/1. DeChambeau, especially, looks set to return to the winner’s enclosure soon and was fifth here two years ago.
But Branden Grace looks even more interesting at prices of 45/1 (46.00) or bigger. The South African notably plays consistently well at courses that suit his game and, after a poor season last year, he’s dedicated himself to climbing back up the world rankings. He’s already won in South Africa this season and 17th place in his following event was no mean feat on the back of the celebrations that surely followed that win. At number 74 in the world, Grace’s best chance of making the US Masters in April looks to be winning a PGA Tour event. He was second in the 2019 Phoenix Open on his first look at the course, and he’s in much better form now.

- A solid slate with a good plethora of fast paced games and good matchups. To start with, we received news that Luka Doncic will miss about two weeks with an ankle injury suffered in practice. This opens up a lot of value at the guard position. Let’s get into this juicy slate.
- If we are starting roster construction on both sites, I would start with Jalen Brunson. With Luka Doncic out, Brunson will pick up the slack and hopefully start for the Mavericks. We’ve seen flashes of good FPPM and he’s going to have to handle a lot of the scoring/assisting duties for Dallas. He’s arguably the best PG they have on the bench, Barea won’t see large minutes, Curry has really played majority of a SG role, and Brunson should get the start.
- The second player I’ll be building around is Jonas Valanciunas. With JJJ out and Brandon Clarke doubtful to play, Jval is the last remaining big on the team. They will need his size vs Favors and with Zion also back they’ll need to use him for rebounding purposes. The Grizzlies will be super shorthanded and I think Jae Crowder will also be a great play as he will have to pick up the minutes at the 4 spot and this should lead to a great value play.
- Another play I love on FanDuel but not so much on DraftKings is Serge Ibaka. He should be starting in place of Gasol and opposing bigs have feasted vs Drummond. I like that he is a PF on FanDuel and cheap, as I have Valanciunas as my #1 Center on both sites. For DraftKings, someone who is underpriced is Steven Adams. Sub 5k on DK, that’s super cheap vs the PHX Suns. He could potentially pay off 7-8x his salary at that price.
- Some studs I like to pay up for tonight are LeBron James and James Harden. I fully expect LeBron to be my stud of the night as he plays one of the most emotional games in his career with the absolutely devastating passing of Kobe Bryant. He has said publicly that he will put the team on his back and will lead them to a championship. I expect the Lakers to put on a show tonight in front of this emotional crowd. Harden on the other hand has been playing awfully as he deals with some nagging injuries. Over the past two weeks he’s struggled with his shot and has failed to have a breakout shooting game. Today’s matchup vs Dallas could be the remedy to break it, but Russell Westbrook has been playing lights out as of late and shouldering the scoring load for the Rockets.
- Some top tier value plays tonight: Jae Crowder, Jalen Brunson, Seth Curry, Delon Wright (GPP) Serge Ibaka (FD) Steven Adams (DK)
- Now, for tournaments, this is where I believe we can get a little more “different”. I would use the other plays listed below to differentiate yourself from the field.

- Super Bowl 54 is scheduled for Sunday, February 2 at 6:30pm ET
- Each year, sportsbooks release hundreds of Super Bowl props
- We’ve pulled the 25 weirdest ones we’ve seen for Super Bowl 54
On Sunday, February 2nd at 6:30pm ET, all Super Bowl props are officially live! Oh, and the San Francisco 49ers and Kansas City Chiefs will also both be trying to win the game being played.
But that’s become secondary to so many bettors with the thousands of prop bets that open up at sportsbooks. You can bet anything from who will catch the first pass of the game to how many TikToks Patrick Mahomes’ brother will post on Sunday. (You’ll see more on the latter in a bit.)
And for the first time since 2016, sportsbooks have not been forced to put out the same old “hoodie props”, and it’s clear the creative juices are flowing. I’ve compiled the 25 weirdest Super Bowl 54 props I could find at all online sportsbooks.
When one of these offends you, please keep in mind that I’m just the messenger boy.

When we were stuck with the Patriots each year, it was common to see props on whether Mark Wahlberg or Ben Affleck would attend the game, but this year we get to bet on Juice attending.

- If the answer to no. 2 is “yes”, but the answer to no. 3 is “no”, is it because we need to see the inside part of her cheeks to count?
- And if the answer to no. 2 is “yes”, but the answer to no. 3 is “no”, does she actually have to push her butt cheeks together to form the cleavage and have this bet graded as “yes”?
13) Mountain Dew “Here’s Johnny”
This prop was so weird to me because I had no idea why it was a prop.

The second one might be one of my all-time favorite Super Bowl props. The simplicity here is just hilarious.
But don’t get too excited. The odds of either of these happening are so long for a reason. First, Julia Rose and Lauren Summer were banned by the MLB after this, and it’s likely the NFL has their eye on them too – yes, that was intended to be a double entendre.

Even if the two were to make it into the Super Bowl, or anyone else had plans to get their boobs on television, the television view of a football game is just much, much different than a baseball game. No fans are directly in the audience’s view throughout the game.
For this to happen, it would have to come after a touchdown, where the player would have to take their celebration over to the stands.
11) Mr Peanut’s Monocle
Betting on commercials is pretty common during the Super Bowl, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen a commercial prop so specific.

And for those still thinking, “MaYbe I’ll bEt thIs ProP anD cALl iN tHe tHreAt MysElF,” STOP! There is no chance a sportsbook is going to pay you out after you’ve been charged for calling in (what better be) a fake bomb threat. And if you’re thinking you’ll get a friend to place the bet for you, pump the brakes. They will find the connection between you two and both will be banned.

9) “Epstein Didn’t Kill Himself” Sign to Be Shown
MyBookie has a tendency to go pretty dark with their props. They’re the book that allows you to bet on death matchups, as well – which person will die first.
