Xavier Goes Cold
A poor shooting night doomed Xavier, which is normally a good offensive team, against Creighton.
Xavier made nine of its first 13 shots while breaking to a 22-9 lead. However, the Musketeers connected on just 15 of 55 field goal attempts the rest of the way.
Strange game. Not one I expected to win, but tough not to take when I felt like Creighton didn’t play their game. I thought they did a really good job crowding shooters. Tough one to swallow, but they’re a good team. Great start to the season. Regroup and get ready for Hall. Go X

Xavier also hit on just two of 16 attempts from 3-point range in the second half.
That was seemingly an aberration, though, as Xavier is averaging 81.6 points a game while shooting 49.3% from the floor and 39.1% on 3-pointers. The Musketeers are 20th in the nation in adjusted offensive efficiency according to KenPom.com.
Leading scorer Zach Freemantle was held to a season-low seven points by Creighton and fouled out with 2:38 remaining. The sophomore forward made just three of nine field goal attempts.
Freemantle is averaging 16.3 points and 7.6 rebounds a game. However, he has scored a combined 16 points in the last two games after averaging 18.7 points in his first seven games.

Xavier also has three guards with double-figure scoring averages — seniors Paul Scruggs (15.8) and Nate Johnson (13.3) and sophomore KyKy Tandy (10.0).
Scruggs has been filling the stat sheet as he also has averages of 6.7 assists, 4.0 rebounds and 2.0 steals. Johnson, a transfer from Gardner-Webb, is shooting 53.8% from long range.
Seton Hall Heats Up
A pair of wings, senior Myles Cale and junior Jared Rhoden, combined for 56 points in Seton Hall’s latest victory, 78-67 over Georgetown at home last Wednesday as a 10-point favorite.
Cale scored a career-high 30 points as Seton Hall took a quick 12-2 lead and never trailed. He made 10 of 16 shots from the field, including five of nine from 3-point range.

Rhoden tied his career highs with 26 points and 12 rebounds for his third double-double of the season. He added four assists and two steals.
That duo made up for an off night by Seton Hall’s leading scorer, senior forward Sandro Mamukelashvili. He had just two points, but coach Kevin Willard attributed that performance to fatigue as Mamukelashvili is averaging a team-high 34.7 minutes a game.
Despite the off night, Mamukelashvili is having a fine season. He is averaging 18.2 points a game along with 6.7 rebounds and 3.3 assists.

Rhoden is second on the team in scoring with a 15.7 average and is also pulling down 7.6 rebounds a game. Cale is scoring 12.6 points a game and shooting 43.5% from 3-point range.
The Pirates are averaging 24.2 free throw attempts a game, which is third in the country.
Road Dogs Barking
The teams split their two games last season with each team winning as a road underdog. Seton Hal notched an 83-71 victory as a 3.5-point dog and Xavier won 74-62 as an 8.5-point dog.
Rhoden scored a total of 31 points in those two games.
However, the play here is the home favorite as Xavier will bounce back after its rough offensive showing against Creighton and make it six straight wins against the spread.
Pick: Xavier -3.5 (-110)
