William Hill US has kicked off its expansion in the Illinois sports betting market with the opening of its first retail sportsbook in the state.
The US division of legacy British bookmaker William Hill on Monday celebrated the launch of its sports betting facility at Grand Victoria Casino Elgin in the greater Chicago area.
The facility is William Hill’s first in the Land of Lincoln and marks an important milestone in the long-term relationship between the sports betting operator and casino giant Caesars Entertainment Inc., which was recently formed from the combination of Eldorado Resorts and Caesars Entertainment Corp. William Hill signed in the fall of 2018 a long-term sports betting deal with the former Eldorado.
The new William Hill Sports Book at Grand Victoria Casino features three full-service ticket windows. It is now open seven days a week from 10 am to 10 pm. It offers high-top tables and comfortable seating options as well as a number of televisions airing the most popular sports.
The newly inaugurated sports betting facility is adjacent to Grand Victoria Casino’s existing slot machines and table games and the bar on the casino floor to provide sports fans and guests with an integrated gambling and entertainment experience.
William Hill noted Monday that as part of health and safety guidelines introduced at Grand Victoria Casino Elgin to help curb the spread of the coronavirus, two out of its three new sportsbook’s ticket windows will be open to allow for social distancing.
Regulated US Expansion
Commenting on the opening of their first Illinois retail betting experience, William Hill President of Retail Operations David Grolman said that he is looking forward to “seeing the community come together to watch their favorite teams” as professional sports are gradually returning.
Mr. Grolman went on to say that their first Illinois sportsbook allows them to continue to expand their relationship with Caesars Entertainment by launching retail facilities at casinos around the country owned by the latter company.
Bill Gustafson, Senior Vice President at Grand Victoria Casino Elgin, said that partnering with a leading sports betting operator enables them to offer their customers “an elevated experience that features industry-leading wagering and technology.” Mr. Gustafson went on that the betting facility boasts a prime location and will certainly draw sports fans in and keep them engaged.
William Hill now awaits regulatory approval from the Illinois Gaming Board to go live with mobile wagering in the state.
News about the opening of William Hill’s first sportsbook in Illinois follows the company’s debut in Colorado’s retail betting market. Last week, the operator launched six betting kiosks at Isle Casino Hotel and Lady Luck Casino in Black Hawk.
