- The Los Angeles Dodgers are -142 favorites over the Los Angeles Angels on Saturday (Aug. 15, 9:40 pm EST)
- The Dodgers ended a four-game losing streak against the Angels with a win on Friday
- Analysis of the odds and predictions on the outcome are assessed in the ensuing story
Now that the Los Angeles Dodgers have finally solved the Los Angeles Angels, perhaps Dodgers starting pitcher Walker Buehler can get the double goose eggs out of his 2020 win-loss record.
Buehler, who takes the hill Saturday to face the Angels, is still 0-0 on the year through his first three starts. He was 14-4 last season and selected to represent the National League in the MLB All-Star Game.
Friday’s victory enabled the Dodgers to bring a halt to their four-game losing skid against the Angels. But you have to go back to 2014-15, when the Dodgers won eight in a row from the Angels, to locate a time when LA’s NL team won consecutive games against LA’s AL team.
Since that run of success, the Angels own a 13-7 edge in the series.
Nonetheless, Buehler and his teammates opened as -142 favorites in the Dodgers vs Angels odds. The Dodgers are 6-3 against the spread as an away favorite.
Dodgers vs Angels Odds
Team | Moneyline | Runline | Total FanDuel |

Los Angeles Dodgers | -142 | -1.5 (+106) | O 9.0 (-110) |
Los Angeles Angels | +124 | +1.5 (-124) | U 9.0 (-110) |
Odds as of Aug. 14.
The Halos and Andrew Heaney are +124 underdogs. The Angels are 3-2 ATS as a home underdog.
Betts Hits Bombs
Outfielder Mookie Betts went deep three times in Thursday’s win over the Padres. It was the sixth three-homer game of his career. That tied Betts with Johnny Mize and Sammy Sosa for a share of the MLB record for most three-homer games.

Returning to the lineup after a five-game absence due to a bad back, Corey Seager crushed a two-run homer in his first at-bat against the Padres on Thursday. Catcher Will Smith is day-to-day with a stiff neck. That leaves Austin Barnes as the only catcher on the Dodgers’ 28-player roster.
Ailing Angels
Shortstop Adrelton Simmons will miss the Dodgers series with a sprained left ankle. He’s on the injured list and has been out since July 27.
#Angels manager Joe Maddon said he doesn’t expect shortstop Andrelton Simmons (ankle) returning from the IL this weekend. “He’s still sore.”

Reliever Cam Bedrosian, on the IL since August 3rd with a right adductor strain, has resumed throwing but isn’t likely to be activated for this series.
Double (Zero) Digits
Buehler has gone four straight starts without a decision since his win in Game 1 of the 2019 NLDS. He went 5-1 over his last seven regular-season starts in 2019.
Walker Buehler says last year he was “really bad” for 2-5 outings last year.
Feels encouraged just a few starts in this year.

In his last start, things looked to be getting better for the man projected to be the team’s ace this season. Buehler held the Padres to one hit over 5.2 innings in a game that the Dodgers eventually won 6-2.

However, he walked four and hit a batter. All four of the free passes issued by Buehler were leadoff walks.
Buehler has also never recorded a decision against the Angels. He’s faced them once, serving up a pair of home runs in five innings of work.
Heaney Hit Hard
For the most part, Heaney (1-1) has pitched decently for the Angels. However, his last start against the Texas Rangers was his worst of the season. Heaney was roughed up for five earned runs in just 3.2 innings. His ERA shot up from 2.35 to 4.26 after that outing.
Heaney surrendered eight hits in that start. The good news is that he didn’t walk a single batter while striking out four.

The Angels are 5-4 this season when their starting pitcher goes at least five innings. They’re 2-9 when the starter doesn’t get through the fifth.
Pick: Los Angeles Dodgers (-142).
