Daniel “KidPoker” Negreanu BANNED from Twitch

Red Circle + Crossbar

Daniel “KidPoker” Negreanu is a six-time World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelet winner and two-time World Poker Tour (WPT) champion. Yet, that doesn’t make it OK for him to operate outside the terms of service of Twitch – something that the streaming site is all too happy to make known. Despite the fact that he’s perhaps the most prominent ambassador that GGPoker currently has, KidPoker’s recent behavior has seen him kicked off the streaming platform.

And the reason why? Because Negreanu can’t seem to keep a cool head while participating in live streams at online poker sites.

Negreanu Rages at Online Troll

Unhappy Smiley

On Friday, July 24, KidPoker ended up raging through the Twitch streaming service at an online troll. The incident occurred while he was streaming his session on WSOP.com where he was playing in WSOP Online Event #24, a $400 buyin NLHE 8-handed tournament.

An individual in Negreanu’s chat, using the name “Tom Estrada,” made various unflattering remarks about his wife, Amanda. Negreanu wasn’t able to keep his cool and leapt into a somewhat vicious tirade at the commenter:

Hey, Tom Estrada, go fuck yourself, you piece of shit! Block that cock motherfucking piece of shit. Fuck you, fuck you, fuck you in your ass. How about that? OK, Tom Estrada. Fuck you in your ass. Eat some of that. Piece of shit. Come fucking step to me and say that, and I will knock you the fuck out. How about that, huh? I am not fucking around. I will break your fucking teeth if you come step to me, and I will feed them to you anally. How about that? How about that? OK, that will teach you for a fucking stupid comment like that.

Imagine that folks. 70 kilos of raging, middle-aged, vegan thunder going toe to toe with a Twitch poker stream troll. Imagine the PPV money such an epic brawl would bring in!

Negreanu’s Antics Lead to Ban

On Sunday, July 26, Daniel’s Twitch channel was banned as reported by an automated Twitter account @StreamerBans, which keeps tabs on accounts that have been banned:

It’s highly likely that this penalty was the result of the stream described above. Daniel Negreanu almost definitely broke the community guidelines of Twitch specifically the “Violence and Threats” section:

Violence and Threats

Acts and threats of violence will be taken seriously and are considered zero-tolerance violations and all accounts associated with such activities will be indefinitely suspended. This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Attempts or threats to physically harm or kill others
  • Attempts or threats to hack, DDOS, or SWAT others
  • Use of weapons to physically threaten, intimidate, harm, or kill others

This is the first time that the poker player has incurred punishment from the streaming service, so there’s the possibility that his account will be reinstated. However, there doesn’t appear to be any sort of announced end date. Therefore, Daniel might have been banned from using Twitch indefinitely.

Not Daniel’s Only Expletive-Filled Rant

Though his July 24 diatribe was likely responsible for his ban, this wasn’t the first time in recent memory that Daniel Negreanu lost his composure onstream. A similar occurrence took place on July 10 as Daniel was competing in WSOP Event #10, a $600 buyin NLHE Monster Stack tournament.

Negreanu – like many of us – isn’t a fan of software that breaks down midway through games. That’s what he experienced in Event #10 when a disconnection occurred part way through a hand. However, rather than going through a minor bout of anger and frustration, Negreanu went off on quite a tirade. While at times, this was amusing to witness, it reached a point of being unacceptable with various expletive-laden rants being streamed directly through Twitch.

While Negreanu saw the funny side of things the following day, he did suffer from a few mild jabs at the hands of other professionals. Mike “The Mouth” Matusow, whose actions have been criticized by Negreanu in the past, chose to tweet him and question his mental stability after having watched the episode himself:

Doug Polk Takes Shots at Archnemesis

Two Guns

It’s safe to say that Negreanu has made a number of enemies over his years of playing poker although a particular archnemesis that stands out is Doug “WCGRider” Polk. Polk garnered a fair bit of attention last year when he discussed the unbelievable plays of Mike Postle whom he declared was cheating.

Never one to stay away from the world of controversy though, Polk opted to craft a video featuring several outbursts of Negreanu’s. The brutal parody compilation, which has now been removed from YouTube for violating that brand’s terms of service, ended with a dildo-sucking scene relating to one of the threats that Negreanu threw at the troll.

Polk and Negreanu have a long history of trading insults and taking various swipes at one another. These exchanges have frequently taken place over Twitter, and Polk often gets the upper hand in them. Generally speaking, though, these moments of back and forth between them have been regarding poker awards or t-shirt issues. One of the more infamous situations came when Negreanu stupidly opted to don blackface for a skit with himself portraying a Jamaican man, and this gave Polk lots of fuel to direct negativity in Negreanu’s direction

However, with the online tirades of recent times, Negreanu has simply given his hater a mass of extra fuel to throw onto the fire and keep it burning for much longer. Negreanu did appear to laugh that off via Twitter, be that in a definitive way or potentially in a sarcastic way.

Interestingly, Doug and Daniel have agreed to a heads-up grudge match to consist of between 10,000 and 25,000 hands of $200/$400 heads-up NL Hold’em. The negotiations for this contest were conducted after Negreanu’s Twitch ban, perhaps indicating that he was on tilt and perhaps agreed to something that he otherwise would not have had any interest in. This match could be a way for the two archrivals to finally achieve some kind of closure and put their multi-year feud to rest.

Wife Supportive of Her Husband

The rabid attacks from former pro Polk might have left Negreanu dismayed, but he was no doubt cheered by the reaction of his wife. After all, he can largely ignore Doug’s invective, but turning a deaf ear to the opinion’s of one’s significant other is quite another matter entirely.

Fortunately, Negreanu’s better half, whom he married in May 2019, fully supported his defense of her honor. Amanda Negreanu (née Leatherman) explained her views on Twitter:

Could This Put a Stop to Negreanu’s GGPoker Status?

Green Question Mark

As noted, it was only earlier on this year that KidPoker announced his decision to join up to the GGPoker platform as an ambassador. This came following a huge gaffe that was made towards the end of 2019 when Negreanu was announced as the 2019 Player of the Year, only for it to have been a mistake, and Robert Campbell was given the title instead.

Of course, GGPoker may not see the funny side of the face of the company being banned from Twitch, which has become quite the important service for professional poker players. Numerous competitors stream their poker games through the platform, and many fans of the game tune in to watch how their favorites are doing.

With tirades like Negreanu’s, there’s the possibility that GGPoker won’t be so impressed. On the other hand, though, this might just turn out to be a temporary setback because Twitch has a history of allowing banned users to return especially following their first-ever ban.

Daniel did possibly dig himself in a bit deeper though by issuing a “prepared statement” a few days later. This statement was a tongue-in-cheek apology where Negreanu seemed to be making light of the situation without expressing any serious contrition. Part of his “apology” centered around the difficulty of feeding a troll his own teeth anally:

It’s incredibly difficult to shatter teeth, even for a practicing dentist, and even more difficult to place them individually in someone’s rectum.

Without a shadow of a doubt, Negreanu has become quite famous not only for his poker play and exceptional wins but for being an ambassador for PokerStars for 12 years. Of course, PokerStars is only available in the United States to residents of New Jersey and Pennsylvania for the time being, and Daniel’s new home, GGPoker, isn’t open to Americans at all.

Fortunately, there are alternatives to these platform, which we can recommend to you. We have a full guide that you can browse through to find the best poker site that suits your own preferences.
