The World Series of Poker is postponed

We can expect a revised version of the WSOP, including the Main Event, some time in Autumn.

While the majority of live poker events on the poker calendar postponed their events rather quickly in the face of the Coronavirus pandemic, the World Series of Poker was ominous with their lack of response, until now.

The biggest poker festival in the world has now officially been postponed due to the global lockdown.

The World Series of Poker was due to take place on May 26 but last night it was confirmed it would likely take place in Autumn this year, though exact dates have not been set.

The schedule is to change considerably (this writer is guessing that at a minimum the Seniors Events won’t take place for obvious safety reasons) but the $10,000 World Series of Poker Main Event will be a part of it.

Between now and the WSOP brand will be hosting a series of online events, like the one recently announced at GGPoker. This is fitting the industry trend of hosting live festivals online, though it looks doubtful there will be official bracelet events online, in part because no one poker site can host traffic from all over the world.

This story was inevitable but it is still a sad reminder of the way in which the world has dramatically changed for everyone. Of course it goes without saying, hosting the event would have been very irresponsible and a bad advert for the game at this time.

Would you play the WSOP in Autumn? Let us know in the comments:
