PokerStars launch Jackpot PKO SNG in France

The Grand Tour looks like a hybrid of Spin & Go, PKO and the old Steps SNGs with random bounties worth up to €120,000.

A new format looks set to hit the global PokerStars tables after The Grand Tour has been launched in France, first at Play Money but rolling out for real money soon.

As reported by pokerfuse, this is a hybrid of a lot of formats and it takes some explaining.

It is a four handed Hyper Turbo PKO SNG with buy-in levels €1, €2, €5, €12, €25 and €60.

Like a Progressive Knockout (PKO) tournament you win part of your opponent’s bounty when you bust them and your own bounty increases. The bounty increase is a fixed amount (for example €0.50 in a €1 game) but that amount can be multiplied randomly between x1 and x6,000. The bounty on your head could grow as large as €120,000.

When you win the tournament, you progress to the next buy-in level, so when you win a €1 Grand Tour you progress to a €2 tournament with the same bounty on your head. You can, however, buy-in direct at any level. When you win the final €60 tournament you also win the bounty on your head. Players will start each stage after €1 with different bounties to each other.

This makes it similar to the old Steps Satellite SNGs from PokerStars where you could win tickets to higher or lower Steps, with a major live event package at the final stage. Unlike Steps you will win cash prizes along the way, so even if you don’t make it to the final stage, you could be in profit.

You start with between 25 and 30 big blinds depending on the buy-in. It looks set to be a pretty difficult format to solve given there are so many variables involved compared to the relatively simple Spin & Go. The randomised bounty makes it similar to the Mystery Bounty tournament that was planned for the WSOP this summer.

The rake is 10% in France but French poker games are raked higher, so expect that to be less if and when it is rolled out globally.

It looks potentially that this could be a popular format, given that Spin & Go and PKOs have been game changers and the Steps satellites were once quite popular in their own right.
