All odds taken April 22

Pick 1: Gorodeya vs BATE Borisov

After losing their first two matches of the season, almost out of nowhere Gorodeya are on a roll. Three consecutive 1-0 wins have sent them soaring up the table; the most recent of these wins – away at then-leaders Energetyk – taking them up to fourth spot.

BATE Borisov meanwhile – although regarded as the giants of Belarus soccer – have had, by their standards, a poor start to the campaign. Two wins, two defeats, and a draw have for now consigned them to mid-table, although it is early days. With no team unbeaten, BATE remains only three points adrift of the current leaders, Slutsk, but they do head into Saturday’s game knowing they’ve not won in the Gorodeya Stadium in their last four attempts.

Also worth noting here is that BATE are not on a particularly good run away from home, having lost three of their last four and, in addition, they host Slavia Mozyr in the Belarus Cup semifinal second leg on Wednesday. This may influence manager Kirill Alshevskiy’s team selection.

BATE – although regarded as the giants of Belarus soccer – have had, by their standards, a poor start to the campaign

In the equivalent fixture last season, Gorodeya won 1-0, with BATE winning 2-1 back in Borisov, and so everything here points to the value being with the home win, especially as it’s currently on offer at a juicy +545. For me, this is a no-brainer

Pick: Gorodeya to win (+545)

Pick 2: Isloch vs Vitebsk

These two meet on Sunday at the Stadion FK Minsk, with both currently sitting comfortably in the top half of the table. A win for Isloch would see them leapfrog second-placed Vitebsk, and most likely end up in the top two, so there’s plenty at stake.

For Isloch, their 2-1 home win over Slavia last weekend was an important one, after losing two on the bounce to Slutsk and Dinamo Brest, while Vitebsk were also demonstrating their quality with a fine 1-0 home win over current title holders Dinamo Brest.

A win for the visitors this Sunday would see them extend their unbeaten run to four games, but they come up against an Isloch team who have an impressive home record. This brings the draw into play for the punters. In the last league meeting between these two, Vitebsk won 2-0, but, while the away win is tempting at +267, with so much at stake, my money will be on a low-scoring draw.

My picks: Isloch and Vitebsk to draw (+211)

Pick 3: Smolevichi-STI vs Dinamo Minsk

It’s a basement battle in Smolevichi, with 15th playing 10th. For the visitors, Dinamo Minsk, Friday’s game offers a great opportunity to chalk up their first away win of the season, with the home team still awaiting their own first win – two defeats and three draws currently leaving them one place off the bottom of the table. The hosts’ poor record against Dinamo at the Ozyorny Stadium also adds weight to the prospect of an away win.

For Smolevichi – who won promotion back to the Premier League last season – this hasn’t been the start they had hoped for and, going back to their last season in the top flight, they’ve now failed to win in their last 13 Premier League games.

It’s difficult to see this changing at the weekend, with Minsk having a dominant 4-0 record against Smolevichi in their competitive head-to-heads, with all of those games being won by two or more goals. So, while the gamblers may be tempted by the +228 for an unlikely draw, the away win, for me, looks easy money.

My pick: Dinamo Minsk to win (-111)
