The latest word from WSOP officials is still that they are holding on to see if the World Series of Poker could take place in May as planned.
Although every major live poker event for the foreseeable future has been cancelled and every casino in Las Vegas is closed, the silence from the World Series of Poker has been deafening.
There is still no official word on whether the series will take place at the end of May as planned, despite a quarter of the world currently being on lockdown.
Last week the Las Vegas Review Journal revealed that a decision on the WSOP is unlikely before May. Seth Palansky, the Vice President of corporate communications for the WSOP, told them they are still monitoring the situation and there is no need to make a decision yet.
He also hinted that there could be a change of dates, which didn’t originally look possible but given more events at the Rio have now been cancelled, it did open a few doors for a potentially later series.
87 bracelet events (including two Seniors events) are set to take place at the WSOP between May 26 to July 15. Whether the event will (or should) take place as planned has been the talk of the poker community throughout the coronavirus pandemic.
